Skin Type: Oily/Blemish Prone
Shannon is my beautiful younger sister. She typically isn’t a big makeup wearer day to day but was going to the UQ Law Ball and asked if I could do her hair and makeup. I always love to do Shannon’s makeup because we have similar facial features being related and all but she has some different colourings which is fun! She has much deeper brown eyes and very shiny, healthy dark brunette hair. She also doesn’t usually fake tan but she used a very light coat for this event. So of course I said yes I would do her makeup and she came over a few hours before the event (we always need a long time as we talk a lot throughout). She was kind enough to let me take before pictures and even suggested I use them for my blog. *Thanks Babe*
Infallible Primer – applied with fingers and smoothed into her skin starting from the center of her face. This is a silicone based primer which I have been preferring and it works well with my chosen foundation.
Maybelline FIT me Matte & Poreless Foundation – Shade 120 (added a little of 220) mixed on the back of my hand and applied with a flat top foundation brush, just bounced over her face (straight up and down so as not to lift up any dry patches).
LA Girl Pro Concealer in Ivory – used first to conceal blemishes under the foundation and then in a triangle shape under the eyes to conceal and highlight. These are awesome, works so well and I buy mine for $2.99 each on Beauty Joint.
Real Techniques Beauty Sponge – used damp to blend out concealer and just bounced over Shannon’s face to pick up any extra foundation. I am a huge lover of this product, I loved the beauty blender but found it expensive and difficult to get in Australia. I now prefer the real techniques one and have gotten so many family members onto these.
RCMA No Colour Powder – used first to set concealer with a small tapered brush and then light dusting to set foundation with a larger powder brush. I have been loving this, picked it up after Kathleen Lights raved about it and can’t believe how fine the powder is and it’s just so affordable (approx $10 for 3 ounces)!
Benfit Hoola Bronzer – to contour and bronze her face. I use this myself everyday and will always repurchase it. It is the perfect colour for more pale complexions and is great for a quick contour, also it lasts forever.
Becca Champagne Pop – to Highlight the cheekbones (she wasn’t totally thrilled by this to start with as she’s an oily skin type and thought I was mad). However it turned out beautifully. Champagne Pop is so beautiful I only use it for occasions rather than day to day.
Hourglass Ambient Blush – I used the shade Dim Infusion which is a little peachy pink on the apples of the cheeks and swept upward in circular motions. I absolutely love hourglass, all of their face powders especially!
Morphe 35O Palette on the eyes – I used a variety of the warm browns found in this pallette in the crease and to deepen the outer v then used a beautiful light shimmery shade for the lid. I have a whole blog post on this palette it is incredible and they now have all matte and all shimmer versions of it!
Maybelline Hyper Sharp Liquid Liner – Used the thin side to draw a thin wing, enough to hide the lash band. This is my favourite liquid liner at the moment and has made winged liner so much less time consuming.
Ardell Wispy False Lashes – measured and trimmed and applied with lash tweezers. Love these as a beautiful natural lash which is perfect for someone who isn’t used to wearing so much makeup.
House of Lashes glue – thin line applied across the band and waited about 30 seconds for it to go tacky. This is the best lash glue ever, it even smells pretty.
ABH Brow Wiz in Taupe – I used Taupe with a heavy hand as it was the only colour I had but I am happy with the way it turned out. I just did small hair like strokes until I was happy with how full they were. I’ve now purchased Shannon a Brow Wiz in a Dark Brown shade for her birthday and am taking her to try threading soon!
Models Prefer Lip Liner – In the shade natural (my personal fav, super smooth & only $8.99 at Priceline)
Mac Velvet Teddy Lipstick – Really suits her beautifully (prefer it on her than me actually!)
Mac Fix + – Spritzed over the face (quite generously). I love facial sprays and Mac Fix plus is so good for when you use a lot of powders and want them to almost melt into the skin and look more natural.
Brief Hair How To:
I just started by spraying some heat protection spray in her hair and brushed it through as I always do with myself. Shannon rarely uses heat on her hair or colours it or anything so her hair is in beautiful condition.
Then I just did a quick straightening job with my GHD straightener that I have had for years. I didn’t focus on making it perfectly straight as I knew I was going to curl it. I focused on the top layers and any fly aways.
I then used my Bellami 6 in 1 Curler with the 19mm -19mm straight barrel and just separated the hair just in half either side of her middle part. I alternated the curls facing her face and away from her face with the barrel facing straight down and allowed them to cool before brushing them out. For the pieces framing her face I turned the wand horizontal and wrapped those pieces away from her face and only around the barrel once. I sprayed all the curls with hair spray and used a teasing brush to give a little more volume towards the roots. Lastly I took a big powder brush that I don’t use and I sprayed it with hair spray and used it to tame any fly away hairs.
She was just wanting an effortless but polished look and I really like how it turned out.

Thank you Shannon for allowing me to feature you in my blog. It brought me back to how we used to pretend to be on infomercials, smiling and selling beauty products in the mirror when we were little!
I hope you enjoyed this blog post and maybe have a go at doing a friend or siblings make up, its a lot of fun. Thanks for reading.
